PhotoBulk
is a useful batch image processor from Eltima Software. It allows you to add
watermarks, resize, optimize, convert to various file formats and rename your
images.
It's very easy to use, very quick and allows you to create presets for
those image manipulations you use most often. It also offers previews, to
ensure that the changes you're making are really what you want.
PhotoBulk doesn't make changes to the originals; instead, it saves changes in a folder
you select, allowing you to keep the originals and edits separately.

Installing PhotoBulk
PhotoBulk
doesn't require an installer; simply drag the app to your Applications folder
and it's ready to go. The same is true if you decide PhotoBulk is not for you;
simply drag the app to the Trash, empty the trash, and PhotoBulk is removed.
Using PhotoBulk
PhotoBulk
is a compact app with a single-window that resizes to fit the imaging tools you
select to use on your photos. PhotoBulk has a large drop zone where you drag
all the images to which you wish to make bulk changes.
Just
below the drop zone is a toolbar containing text buttons for each of the
effects you can add to an image; the effects include Watermark, Resize,
Optimize, and Rename. There's also a seeing-eye icon, which allows you to see a
preview of the changes that will occur.
When
you select an effect, the window will expand to show the tools for making the
selected changes.
Effects
· Watermark
This feature allows you to add an image, text, date, and timestamp, or script. The
script adds any text you enter repeatedly across your image. It’s a good way to add text, such as Sample, that
allows someone to see the quality of your image, but makes it pretty much
useless if they wish to abscond with your work.
When
you choose an image to be used for a watermark, you can select the image to
add, the size to use, the location for the image, the watermark's rotation, and
it's opacity.
For
the text options, including date stamp, you can select the font, size, and style for the text and date stamp options, along with location, rotation, and
opacity.
· Resize
You
can resize an image by height, width, percentage, free size, and max size. You
can also choose not to apply to resize effects to smaller images that would
require enlarging to meet the resize specifications. The Resize feature can be
especially helpful if you have an image size requirement.
· Optimize
The
Optimize options are restricted to images that you'll save as JPEGs or PNGs.
You can set the compression rate for the saved image, from maximum to minimum
and anywhere in between, using the compression slider. But keep in mind that
while in many cases, using compression can speed up how fast image loads, it
can also lead to a loss in image quality.
· Rename
The
rename feature lets you select a base name that you can then add sequential
digits to, either as a prefix or suffix.
·
Convert
There's
no option for conversion within the app. Instead, the conversion occurs when
you save the output of the batch processor. You can select JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP,
or TIFF as the format for the saved images.
Review
PhotoBulk
doesn't try to be a large, complex image batch processor; instead, it focuses
its attention on just a few image manipulation processes that many of us need
to perform.
At
$5.99, PhotoBulk is a must-have. A demo is available.
