FACEBOOK'S new avatars have taken the world by storm, with people posting
their custom-made emojis to the social media platform in the absence of
physical interaction. How do you make your own Facebook avatar?
How to make a Facebook avatar emoji
Facebook avatar emojis are the social media platform's answer to Bitmoji,
which now looks likely to rival the Snapchat feature. With thousands of people
flocking to post their personalized emoticons, many will likely question how
they can join the fun. Express.co.uk brings you a simple guide on how you can create
your own.
Facebook avatars dropped across Europe last month around April 21 after
platform bosses unveiled them in 2019.
Australia and New Zealand had the pleasure to test the feature first, and
the US followed the rest of the world last week.
They allow people to add an extra flair to their comments and stories,
replacing conventional emoji.
To create the emoji, first, open the IOS or Android Facebook app, and
from the landing page, click on the menu, visible as three horizontal lines in
the top left of the screen.
People then need to scroll down and select "see more", where
they can tap on the "avatars" option.
From there, click "next" and "get started", which
will bring users to the Facebook avatar landing page.
The landing page allows people to customize a base model, with an array
of options available for them to bring the character close to their own
appearance.
First people can pick their skin tone, then hairstyle, hair color, face
shape, eye shape, and color, eyebrows, makeup, nose shape, body shape, outfit
and more.
The slew of options gives people full creative control over their avatar,
down to wrinkles and face lines for those wanting to hone in on microscopic
details.
There's even a mirror icon at the top left of the screen which allows
people to see themselves while they customize.
Once people have finished, they need to tick the top right checkbox, and
once it has finished loading click "next".
After clicking the "done" button, people can share their
avatar set it as a profile picture, and use it to react to Facebook posts.
Much like Bitmoji, Facebook has created a set of custom-designed stickers
for people to use, which adds a new level of expression to the platform.
Fidji Simo, the head of the Facebook app, announced the new feature via
the platform, saying personal expression has become "more important than
ever".
She wrote: "So much of our interactions these days are taking place
online, which is why it’s more important than ever to be able to express
yourself personally on Facebook."
"Avatars enable you to share a range of emotions and expressions via
a digital persona that’s uniquely representative of you, so we’re excited to
bring this new form of self-expression to more people around the world.
"There are so many different ways you can use your avatar including
in comments, Stories, Messenger—and soon text posts with backgrounds, too.
"With so many emotions and expressions to choose from, avatars let
you to reach and engage more authentically with family and friends across the
app.
"It’s important to us that you can personalize your avatar so it
represents your unique, authentic self, which is why we’re also adding in a new
range of customizations, too - such as new hairstyles, complexions, and
outfits."
